Man! Jenni James is a really talented author!! (In my opinion, at least) Emmalee was just as good and enticing as her other books! I had started the original by Jane Austen about a few years ago but didn't even finish the first 50 pages! After reading this, I seriously wanna go back and read it now! Emmalee annoyed me to an extent, but I couldn't get myself to detest her. She had good intentions, but didn't really know how to handle most of the situations. Claire didn't really bother me as much as I thought she would. (Since I'd accidentally read Northanger Alibi before this one, I already knew how she'd turn out) haha! And Chase is a wonderful individual. The whole story is awesome and just filled to the brim with humor and good-natured characters. I highly, highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a refreshing love story, riveting plot, fun-loving characters, and just all-around good writing. :)

Emmalee Jane Austen Diaries Jenni James 9780983829386 Books Reviews

Seriously, I loved this book. Emmalee was a flawed character to begin with, but I could tell she was a character worth staying with. I could tell she wasn't going to let us down! She made me laugh several times throughout the novel. And Chase Anderson...okay, I won't spoil the book for anyone who hasn't read. Basically, the romance in this novel did not disappoint! Funny, engaging and romantic!
This is one of my favorite Jane Austen and I just love to see how the main character grows each time and Jenni James builds Emma perfectly and her details of the surrounding area makes you feel like you are there and walking with the characters. I usually read her books in a matter of days because I just can't put them down. Once you read one you'll have to read all.
The first half was kinda hard to get through, it did get better. I think it’s a great book if you don’t compare it to Emma by Jane Austen but still love pride and popularity and persuaded!!
I loved this book. My daughter also read The Jane Austen Diaries after I did. And she loved them so much that when her cousins came for vacation they all read them (out loud together) during the visit. Great and capturing books. I have enjoyed each one of them. For kindle readers the price is a steal to get a good, cute, clean, fun book. These are the kind of books I want my teen to be reading. With so much out there, I really appreciate an author that keeps it clean. Thank you Jenni James, the more you write, the more we will buy!
I was so excited when I saw that the next installment of The Jane Austen Diaries had been released. I have loved all of the previous books in the series (Pride & Popularity, Northanger Alibi & Persuaded) and Emmalee was no exception. Emmalee is a really fun character to get to know and I love her friendship with Chase and her new friendship with Hannah. She remains a true friend to Hannah throughout the book, even though she tries to get Hannah to do what she (Emma) thinks is best for her instead of what Hannah may actually want. Yes, Emma is a flawed character, but that's part of the fun. You get to see her grow as she starts to see herself through the eyes of other people and eventually SHE figures out that she is flawed and decides she needs to make a change in order to have the life she wants. This is another fun, CLEAN YA romance from Jenni James. It's so nice to find an author that you can feel comfortable recommending to younger daughters/nieces. Fun read! I might have to start on Jenni's Faerie Tale Collection to get me by until Mansfield Ranch comes out later this year. **Note This book was released out of the original order of the series because Northanger Alibi was released early due to it's "Twilight" theme, but the author explains this at the beginning of the book.
I love the world Jenni James has created. Seeing how all the various characters fit into the cast of each story is always fun (though, at times, confusing. I think more so in this book because she mentioned almost ALL of the previous characters in the other books, whereas in some of her other books, she only mentions a few in passing. In Emmalee, they all play a role, and sometimes their personalities change so much from book to book you kind of get a little whiplash).

I read this one out of order - Northanger Alibi is supposed to come two books later - but you still understand everything just fine. I loved the relationship between the two neighbors and how it develops. It felt very natural. The one thing Jenni James does exceptionally well is making you feel the tingles too - every time her characters kiss or hold hands I want to giggle like I'm in high school again. It's a little embarrassing honestly ...

Edited to add Why, if the Christmas party is at Emma's house, does she need a car to go home??? I keep thinking about this, and I wonder if I missed something (like maybe the location was changed...?) I know she probably was going to give a ride home to her friend, but even then, when she runs away from the party, why does she go to her cold car, rather than to her room?
This is a high school version of Jane Austen’s Emma. Emmalee is a super popular girl. A friend of hers moved, so Emmalee’s decided to befriend some lucky girl at her school and make her popular. She also decides to take up matchmaking (which she’s terrible at, despite her assertions otherwise), and she’s perfectly oblivious to som of her own ardent admirers.

First of all, I loved the character arc. Emmalee is a bit snobby and spoiled, yet surprisingly sympathetic. Chase makes the perfect Mr. Knightley for her. Another thing I loved were the emotions. This author has a talent for turning the words on the page into emotions that make your heart clench. The tense and sweet scenes between Chase and Emmalee were perfect—I loved seeing them clash. This book is semi-short. It’ll take a few hours, but you can do it in a day without too much hassle (okay, if it’s on a Sunday). I’d definitely recommend this. In the mean time, I’ll try and find time to work on the next book in the series ;)
