Caribbean Cruising Rachel Hawthorne Books

(Originally posted on my blog, That Artsy Reader Girl)

I found this in the young adult section, and thought it sounded like a cute read for my upcoming week of floating around in the Caribbean.

However... I was annoyed by this storyline. This girl is on an amazing trip, and do you want to know what she's most concerned with? Losing her virginity. Yes. That's her main focus. Does anyone else agree that this is poor subject matter to center a book around? There was no plot other than Lindsay's frustration with being a virgin. Still. Because at 18, surely she should have slept with numerous guys, right? That's what high schoolers do, right? Every guy she meets makes her think, "Oh! I could sleep with him... Better be nice!" And I can't tell you how many "hot body" descriptions I read. I was nauseated. I find it rather frustrating that such a book was written, and then placed in the young adult section. This is where 12-year-olds are instructed to buy books from. Is this seriously a lesson they should be taught? And not only was she looking for sex, she was looking for it with no strings attached. A fling. Seriously? Shallow! And of course she couldn't see a love interest if he smacked her over the head. So she was shallow and dumb. Lovely. I see no reason why she should be someone a teenage girl should look up to.

When I wasn't downright annoyed at this book, I was bored. I've been on cruises. MANY. There is SO much more to write about than this. I can list countless numbers of interesting cruise ship plots. This one just made me want to throw it overboard. Since I don't litter I didn't, plus I would have hated for a cute sea creature to suffer as a result of my frustration. I really can't say I'd recommend this to anyone.

Caribbean Cruising Rachel Hawthorne Books Reviews

This was a rather pleasant story and enjoyed the "tour" of the Caribbean since I have never had the opportunity to take to the tour myself. As stated above it was nice to take on the light hearted story and characters which is a good break after reading quite a few more serious books.
great book love it
*CONTAINS SPOILERS*I loved this book because it had me smiling and eating up every line however, don't want to be the spoiler alert but she said she realized she didn't need to loose her virginity but she did anyway. I was just thinking, you fell in love, I understand but if you were really in love you wouldn't need to have sex two days into the relationship. I liked it but it sort of made me mad. I would still recommend it to people though. Just read until after there first day as a couple, then stop after that
I purchased this book for my 19 myr. old. The book was a real page-turner according to my teen (who has Autism, Dev. Delays). It is not easy to find interesting readers for my teen, but this Author has written a few books, all of which are excellent! My teen can't wait for the Author's next book! I highly recommend for teens, and adolescents!
I am generally a big fan of Rachel Hawthorne. However, this book does not thrill me. Lindsay is not only predictable, but clearly lacks all common sense (who wants a fling with someone "special" anyway? A fling is a fling. Either you want special, or you want a fling. Who seriously expects to find both, and in only ten days?). Brooke is annoying, and hanging out with her for so long only stresses that Lindsay lacks common sense. Ryan, also predictable.

The grammar and wording is also odd at places; this author doesn't seem to like commas. It's like this book is written by a completely different person. Which brings me to another point - Who is Jan Nowasky anyway, it says by Rachel Hawthorne on the cover, but copyright belongs to a different person. Other books I've read, copyright belongs to Hawthorne.

I recommend Hawthorne's other books, like "Island Girls and Boys" "Thrill Ride" or "Love on the Lifts" but don't waste your time with this one.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. From the synopsis, I thought it would be cheesy, predictable, and boring. It is cheesy and predictable, but in a quick-read, great for the beach sort of way. The plot is light and consists of a typical girl eighteen year old girl, Lindsay, trying to have a good time on vacation. Enter Ryan, Lindsay's soon-to-be stepfather's godson. Lindsay initially describes him as cute, but is afraid he will "cramp her style" when she finds out he is only tagging along to babysit her. Will Lindsay find a way to ditch him and have the cruise of a lifetime? Warm up and find out with this summer read.
I wanted a fun read about vacation, and that's exactly what this book gave me! The main character was obviously immature, but she's supposed to be; she is 18 and just graduated from high school. If you're searching for a light, summer-y read, then this book will likely entertain you.

I took one star away for the ending. I feel like the author ended the book too abruptly when there were more plot lines to wrap up. I read the last sentence of the book and didn't even realize it. I turned the page on my kindle and only then realized the story had ended!
